Enigmatic Orange (838)

Chanel Orange Enigmatique (838) Rouge Allure Ink Matte Liquid lip color ($ 40.00 for 0.2 oz.) Is a light to medium brown with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. It mainly had an opaque color coverage which was closer to marketing compared to other shades in the range.

The liquid lipstick had a very spreadable, almost watery texture, so that although it felt thin, it still provided a higher coverage and could be applied evenly without noticeably settling in my lip lines. The formula dried quickly and was transfer resistant, but flexible nonetheless. It lasted a good five hours and felt neither dry nor moisturizing.

Formula overview

$ 40.00 / 0.2 oz. – $ 200.00 per ounce

The formula is said to have an “ultra-intense, ultra-matte, long-lasting lip color” that “blends” for “light” and “pleasant coverage”. The opacity was semi-opaque rather than “ultra-intense”, but the finish was flat and matte after the product dried. For more pigmentation, a second layer can be applied (once the first layer has hardened).

The initial texture was thin, more watery, and more fluid than I expected, and it seemed almost more like a stain effect after it dried. The product had a little more stretch and flexibility after drying, making it more comfortable to wear and very light to the touch. I would recommend exfoliating before using this formula for a smoother application.

They lasted between five and six hours and, for the most part, did not feel drying out. It was a very subtle, floral scent, but no noticeable taste.

Paradoxical Red (840)

Chanel Rouge Paradoxal (840) Rouge Allure Ink Matte Liquid lip color ($ 40.00 for 0.2 oz.) Is a muted, reddish coral with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had a semi-transparent to medium color coverage in a single coat that could be built up by applying a second coat after the first coat had dried.

The texture was light, thin, and more watery, which made it easy to spread over my lips, but this shade seemed more prone to drying out a bit on my lip lines. It wore on well for four and a half hours and didn’t feel drying out.
