Chanel Gold Essential Balm ($ 45.00 for 0.28 oz.) Has a transparent, balsamic base with barely visible, warm gold pearls and a dewy sheen. The texture was light, smooth and very balsamic – non-slip, but thin, spreadable and shiny in the finish. It had a very sheer cover as marketed, although the effect of the pearl in person was a little more noticeable than it appeared in the photos I took. The finish was glossy and didn’t dry out, and while not sticky, it was a higher maintenance finish.

I have preferred to use a separate applicator – fingertip or otherwise – for a more even application. It worked well on bare skin, but since it’s a little more prone to lightening foundations with medium and higher coverage, when working with complexion products it can take some trial and error to find a good pairing. The product held for six hours before moving noticeably.
