Britt Piccini was so cold that she cried.

The Cooke County resident was one of the few in the tiny county, about an hour north of Dallas, who never lost power during the snow and freezing cold caused by winter storm Uri – a winter explosion that hit the power grid of the State decimated and millions of Texans left a week without electricity or water.

But Piccini and a few others in his area who haven’t lost electricity were customers of Griddy, a service that sells them electricity from the grid at wholesale prices.

They observed rising electricity prices in real time and collected hundreds of dollars in fees in their accounts in one day.
