A USPS employee in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, and her boyfriend were charged with stealing more than $ 3 million worth of blank money orders, the New York Daily News reported.

Prosecutors say Jaleesa Wallace, 30, and her co-conspirator Willie Cook, 34, stole money orders from their postal service at the Utica Avenue branch on Feb.13.

The branch manager informed the authorities about the missing 10,000 blank postal orders, which were supposedly delivered but never recorded in the system.

Of the 10,000 blank money orders, more than 100 were exchanged for cash at financial institutions, prosecutors indicted, and 300 of them were found in Cook’s house after a search by federal agents.

Cook allegedly admitted being part of the crime, saying he “kept” stolen money orders that they sold through messaging applications like WhatsApp and Telegram.

Cook said he would get Wallace to deliver the money order to customers they communicated with, prosecutors said.

The friend also allegedly admitted that he posed for pictures on Telegram with the stolen money orders, with one of the pictures captioned “Let’s Eat”.

On July 9, during a law enforcement search of Wallace’s house, agents found 3,100 of the stolen money orders in two large boxes. In addition, $ 42,000 in cash and 37 prepaid debit cards for unemployment benefits were discovered, Daily News reported.

Stolen money orders worth at least $ 1.4 million have been cashed, prosecutors said in a press release.

Wallace is waiting to be tried in Brooklyn federal court.
