ASDA wants to launch its very first loyalty card in its 72-year history, which can help customers save money on groceries.

The supermarket giant plans to test the program later this year as the UK comes out of lockdown.

There is currently a program called George Rewards, which includes points for household goods and clothing expenses, as well as a Christmas Savings Card.

But now the chefs are considering a generalized reward scheme for shoppers when they buy their groceries.

A source said, “It would be a move that customers would appreciate.

“Other supermarket giants have loyalty card programs that customers can use to save money all year round.

“Asda is already very affordable and that way the money for hardworking families will go even further.”

How to lower the cost of your grocery store

Saving in your business can make a huge difference to your wallet. Here are some tips from Money.co.uk on how to cut the cost of your shopping bills:

  • Make yourself a list – Only buy items that you need. If it’s not on your list, don’t put it in the cart
  • Create a budget – Work out a weekly budget for your grocery shopping
  • Never shop hungry – You are far more likely to buy more groceries when your stomach growls
  • Don’t buy any pre-chopped vegetables or fruits – The extra they charge for chopping can be watery eyes
  • Use social media – Follow your favorite retailers for the latest deals
  • Be unfaithful – You may want to go to different stores to find the best deals
  • Check the fine print – It is always worth checking the price per kg / lb / liter when comparing offers so that you make a similar decision as a bigger box doesn’t necessarily mean you get more
  • Use your loyalty cards – Don’t be afraid to sign up with everyone. They all work a little differently – find out which bonus suits you better and exchange your points for additional rewards

Details of what the system would be called and how it would work are yet to be decided.

It is believed to be one of the few options that the supermarket is considering.

Asda launched its George Rewards program in March 2019.

Buyers receive one point for every £ 1 spent on the range and double points for orders of £ 50 or more.

The points can then be exchanged for discounts.

You can also earn points by signing up, writing reviews, or referring friends.

A recent study by Which? found that grocery store loyalty cards, on average, save customers between £ 1 and £ 4 for every £ 100 they spend in-store.

Tesco launched its Clubcard in 1995, which allows customers to save both groceries and fuel.

Customers can earn one point for every £ 1 spent. Each Clubcard point is worth 1p when spent in-store. However, you can exchange it online for three times its value.

Points are sent out as vouchers every three months – but you must have at least 150 points.

It also offers “Clubcard prices” for members of the loyalty card, which grant discounts for well-known brands.

While Sainsburys buyers can collect points with Nectar.

Customers earn one point for every £ 1 spent in-store or online, and one point for every liter of fuel at a gas station.

Each point is worth 0.5p, so 500 points equals £ 2.50 towards your purchase.

You can increase the value of your points by exchanging them online.

An Asda spokesperson said, “For over 50 years we have built customer loyalty by providing high value and breadth to the things that matter most to them. When we have something new to share, we tell them about it first. “
