San Francisco: Apple has patented a double-fold device that relates to a future notebook-like product with a foldable display.
The patent suggests that Apple is looking at the dual-screen approach rather than using a single one. The two screens appear to sit in a pliable case with their own internal hinge system supported by magnets to hold the device in different orientations, Patently reports to Apple.
When unfolded, the screens sit side by side, creating a large panel or possibly a laptop-like experience with an erect screen.
As of now, the Cupertino-based tech giant has not officially announced when it will launch a foldable smartphone.
Other competing brands like Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and Honor will all enter the foldable race late this year or early next year with a total volume of around 17 million units.
Previously, Kuo said that Apple has been researching foldable devices since 2016, but rumors of a foldable iPhone have increased noticeably in recent months.
Apple is also in the process of developing an iPhone with a foldable display similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, and the iPhone maker has ordered a range of foldable displays from Samsung, suggesting it will work on a foldable iPhone.
A report has claimed that the company may also discontinue the iPad Mini after the launch of its foldable iPhones.
