European powers warn Iran against a “dangerous” uranium enrichment

PARIS (Reuters) – The European countries involved in the Iranian nuclear deal told Tehran on Wednesday that their decision to enrich uranium to 60% purity and bring the fissile material closer to bomb quality contradicted efforts to revive the 2015 deal. In an obvious signal to Iran’s arch-opponent Israel, which Tehran blamed on Sunday for an explosion at its main nuclear site, the European powers Germany, France and Great Britain added that they opposed “all escalation measures by an actor”. Israel, which does not recognize the Islamic Republic, has not officially commented on the incident at the Natanz site in Iran, which marked the latest turn in a long-running covert war.
