Amazon is canceling monthly Prime membership and one month free trial in India to comply with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines. Previously, Indian users could buy the Amazon Prime monthly subscription for just Rs.129 a month.

The e-commerce giant now only offers three-month or annual Prime memberships for the price of 329 and 999 rupees, respectively. The company’s support page has been updated to reflect the termination of the monthly membership.

Amazon stopped the free registration of new members for Amazon Prime on April 27th. If you are currently planning to buy or renew an Amazon Prime membership, you can only sign up for the three-month or annual membership.

Amazon likely made the decision after RBI introduced new guidelines that require banks and payment platforms to include an additional authentication factor (AFA) for processing recurring online transactions. Banks and payment processing companies must implement the RBI mandate by September 30, 2021.

Meanwhile, Amazon has launched a new free video streaming service “miniTV” in India, which allows users to watch curated content on web series, tech news, grocery, beauty and fashion in its shopping app, among other things. The new service is free and is supported by ads.

“miniTV has professionally created and curated content for web series, comedy shows, tech news, food, beauty, fashion, and more. With the introduction of miniTV, the Amazon.In-Shopping app is now a single destination for customers at They can shop millions of products, make payments and watch free entertainment videos, “it said in a statement
