Murdaugh’s attorneys Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin notified the state that their client would be extradited to South Carolina.

On September 14, reports surfaced that Murdaugh allegedly hired a hit man to kill him so his surviving son could obtain a $ 10 million insurance policy.
Curtis Edward Smith, 61, was arrested in connection with the September 4 shooting of Murdaugh, who was shot in the head while changing his tire outside of Charleston, South Carolina.
However, Smith claimed he had no prior intention of “shooting like a brother” the man he loved.
Murdaugh asked Smith to meet him on a remote street on September 4, Smith claims.
“I want you to shoot me in the back of the head,” said Smith, recalling Murdaugh’s words as he thrust a loaded gun into his hand.

The gun went off in the following fight and Murdaugh was flown to a Savannah hospital later that night after being found shot in the head, claims Smith.
“I don’t know if betrayal is the right word for it,” Smith told the New York Times of the shooting.
