HOW to save money, start a business, and take care of your mental health is one of the most important life skills adults would have liked to learn in school.
Research on 1,000 mothers and fathers of children ages 11-16 found that they would also have wished they could organize their finances, compile a résumé, and apply math in real life.

A number of parents wish they had learned hands-on skills like changing a tire, putting up wallpaper or plaster of paris over a crack.
While others say it would have been useful if teachers could have covered the basics of public speaking, the importance of trust, and even investing.
Almost nine in ten parents said that self-care skills are more important than algebra in adulthood.
However, six in ten mothers and fathers (62 percent) fear that their child’s potential skills could be compromised because they lack the proper training to be successful. 44 percent believe that their child could change the world.
A spokesman for the new online learning service 8billionideas that commissioned the research said, “The lessons learned from these results were really interesting, and revealed many of the hands-on learning experiences that they had wished for earlier in life.
“It’s easy to forget how many things you learn through real-world experience, from doing simple math while shopping to starting your own business.
“These aren’t always things that can be learned in school, but they are vital to staying one step ahead in the future.”
It found that 83 percent of respondents think that school should offer “life skills” programs to children that teach them how to budget or start a business.
Almost half (47 percent) of parents do not feel ready enough to teach their children important life skills.
While two-thirds of children learn their life skills from their parents, 29 percent say that their children are picking up on YouTube’s findings, according to the OnePoll survey.
