BEIJING, May 14 (Xinhua) – The following is a recap of the science and technology news released from China.
BEIDOU SIMPLIFIES BUSES
Chinese BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) high-resolution terminals have been installed on public buses in Nanchang City in east China’s Jiangxi Province, local authorities said on Thursday.
In remote areas outside the coverage of a conventional telecommunication network, the device can activate the emergency communication function implemented via the BDS-3 system and precisely upload location information of the buses.
Asian domestic pig genome map
A group of Chinese researchers recently completed the genome map of the Meishan pig, a famous Chinese breed of domestic pig, laying a foundation for the protection, development and use of local resources of origin for pigs in China.
The genome map records 2.51 billion base pairs of genes and annotates 22,074 coding genes. The genomic comparison between Meishan and Duroc pigs, a popular European pig breed, shows 49,103 structural differences, 4.02 percent of which are Asian-specific.
CHINESE PATENTS
More than 4,200 Chinese patents have been granted by 26 countries that participated in the Belt and Road initiative in 2020. This corresponds to an increase of 19.3 percent compared to the previous year, sources from the National Intellectual Property Administration (NIPA) announced on Thursday.
China’s published patent applications also saw a year-over-year increase of 17.1 percent, reaching 6,198 in 22 Belt and Road countries last year.
Digital communications, computer technology, and electronic devices topped the list of industries involved in both Chinese patent applications and grants in these countries.
