AUV NEW DIVE RECORD

A full-depth autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) developed by China’s Harbin Engineering University (HEU) recently dived to a depth of 7,709 meters in a deep-sea test, setting a new record for the country’s autonomous submersibles.

The AUV, named Wukong, carried out the deep-sea experiment of the third phase of the HEU key research program for AUV at full depth in February and March and returned to Qingdao in east China’s Shandong Province on Thursday.

SINOVAC VACCINE

The third production line of CoronaVac, an inactivated COVID-19 vaccine developed by Sinovac Biotech, was completed and put into production on Thursday. It will likely expand the company’s annual production capacity to 2 billion cans.

CELL CLONING EXPERIMENT

Chinese scientists have completed a somatic cell cloning experiment that successfully facilitated the birth of five pigs native to China in order to reduce the African swine fever threat to pig breeding.
