Are you an Android user? WhatsApp has an update for you as it plans to stop backing up your status updates.
It is currently believed that WhatsApp conversations will last forever and that you will never lose your chats even if you erase your data or change your smartphone.
WhatsApp has a feature called Chat Backup that basically saves all of your data including your chats, shared media, status updates on Google Cloud if you are using an Android phone, or iCloud if you are an iPhone user. But from now on WhatsApp will not save WhatsApp status updates in chat backups on Android.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will stop backing up status updates to save space while also backing up users’ chat history. But it is also a fact that Google provides unlimited storage space on Google Drive when backing up WhatsApp chat history. However, this is about to change too as your WhatsApp status updates will change.
The blog site went on to say that WhatsApp will also change the place where chat history is saved. The messaging platform will change to ensure that WhatsApp chat backups are also stored locally on users’ smartphones.
In particular, the blog site also revealed that people often upload videos on their status, which further increases the size of WhatsApp backups. After removing the status updates from WhatsApp’s purview, you can save a lot of space on the device.
The counterpoint is that WhatsApp states will go away in 24 hours, so there is no point in including them in WhatsApp backups.
It is important to note that WhatsApp does not include status updates from WhatsApp backups while they are stored on iCloud. It is now planned to bring similar functions to Android as well. This function is still in the development phase.
