Indian auto industry activity has slowed significantly since April when the second wave of the COVID-19 virus hit the country and resumed normal life. However, automakers are trying to get the plan on track as the number of cases declines and the state slowly begins to unlock. June is already a busy month, with at least five new cars and motorcycles slated to hit the market this week (June 7-11). Let’s take a quick look at when and what is to come.

Ducati Panigale V4 BS6

With the enforcement of the BS6 emissions standards in April 2020, the entire Ducati motorcycle range was temporarily discontinued and Italian manufacturers slowly reintroduced updated products. The latest model to return to the Indian market is the Ducati Panigale V4, the brand’s flagship. Expect a larger Panigale to be available with the same standard V4 and V4 S as before. As part of the update, the bike also features improved electronics, gills integrated into the fairing, and an improved aerodynamics package with functional winglets. It also has a 1,103 cc V4 engine that develops 211 hp and 124 Nm of torque.

Ducati’s robust power cruiser, the Diavel 1260, will also celebrate a comeback in the upgraded BS6 format. The Diavel 1260 weighed 5 kilograms to 249 kilograms (curb). However, the 1,262 cc two-cylinder engine is also a bit more powerful and produces almost 160 hp and 129 Nm of torque. It inherits the 6-speed gearbox and the 1260 S version is equipped with a bidirectional quick-shift lever as standard. The price of the Diavel 1260 is expected to be around Rs 200,000 (former showroom).

Mercedes Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC

The next big launch from Mercedes-Benz India is the Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC, which is planned for June 8th. The Mercedes-Benz GLS forms the basis for the world’s first Maybach SUV, which was presented in China at the end of 2019. The Maybach GLS 600 is clearly based on the GLS, but there are some distinguishing features. Other than that, it helps to differentiate it from the underlying GLS. To entertain the rear passengers, the “First Class” version of the Maybach GLS offers two separate heavy reclining seats with an integrated massage function, an electric legrest, a refrigerator and a folding table. It has a fixed center console. A 4.0-liter V8 petrol engine with turbocharging in combination with a 48-volt mild hybrid system works under the hood. The total output is set at 558 hp and 730 Nm torque. Expect the price of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 in India to approach 2 million rupees (original showroom).
