Chinese scientist Yuan Longping, known for developing the first hybrid rice variety that relieved countless people from hunger, died of organ failure on Saturday at the age of 91.
Yuan was under medical treatment after falling in March while doing research at a seed breeding base in Hainan Province.
DECEASED SURGEON
China’s best hepatobiliary surgeon Wu Mengchao, known as “the father of Chinese hepatobiliary surgery,” passed away at 9:00 am on Saturday.
Wu, an academic from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, established a unique system of liver surgery in China and devoted himself to saving lives for nearly eight decades. He continued working until the 1990s, seeing patients and performing operations.
