A lawsuit has been filed against South Korean tech giant Samsung alleging the company used faulty glass covers for the rear camera setup of its smartphones launched under the flagship Galaxy S20 range.
According to Hagens Berman law firm, Samsung has ignored a widespread defect in the Galaxy S20 series smartphones in which the protective glass on the camera module unexpectedly shatters during normal use, reports XDA Developers.
Samsung faces charges of fraud, breach of warranty and violations of multiple consumer protection laws, the report said.
“Samsung sold its Galaxy S20 as a high-end consumer option with a ‘professional’ camera costing over $ 1,600 per device only to suddenly lose an important aspect of its functionality,” said Steve Berman, managing partner of the law firm .
The law firm announced that Samsung has sold its smartphone range with a defect that affects the glass of the rear camera module and that spontaneously shatters without any external force, even when the phone is in a protective case.
The defect is said to affect the entire Galaxy S20 series, including the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 +, Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy S20 FE, and all 5G variants of these phones.
Specifically, this problem has been around since the phone series launch when a certain Galaxy S20 owner reported the problem on the Samsung community website just four days after it was sold.
However, according to customers, the company refused to cover the issue under warranty, the report said.
