BEIJING, April 12 (Xinhua). The following is a summary of the science and technology news published in China.

GREATER BIODIVERSITY IN TIBET

A recent survey found that the number of wild terrestrial vertebrate species in the Tibet Autonomous Region in southwest China has increased from 701 surveyed eight years ago to 1,072.

The survey, carried out from 2012 to 2020, identified five new species – three species of frogs in different areas of Tibet, the white-cheeked macaque and one species of viper.

GLOBAL URBAN EXPANSION

Global urban expansion has accelerated steadily since 2000, according to a recent research article published in Science Bulletin.

The research found that the global urban land area increased from 239,000 square kilometers in 2000 to 519,800 square kilometers in 2020. In the 10 years from 2010 to 2020, global urban expansion moved at a rate of 17,500 square kilometers per year – faster than the previous decades.

SCI-TECH INNOVATION IPOs

The Chinese Securities Commission has approved the IPO of four companies on the Science and Technology Innovation Committee.

BOZHON Precision Industry Technology Co., Ltd., Shanghai Rightongene Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Haiyan Energy System Resources Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. and Everdisplay Optronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. are listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange Sci-Tech Innovation Board, commonly known as STAR Market, according to the China Securities Regulatory Commission.
