Kate Hashimoto tries to spend as little as possible
She says of TLC’s Extreme Cheapskates: “I lived in New York for three years, even though it’s the most expensive city I can live in. I’ve found ways to get around them.
“If I have to spend money, I’ll try to avoid it, I’ll try to pay as little as possible.”
With a budget of just $ 200 a month for living expenses, Kate is finding ways to reuse whatever she can to keep making her money.
“When I dry my hands in a public bathroom, I dry hands that I’ve washed clean so that I can keep and reuse them,” she explains.

Instead of buying toilet paper, she just washes herself with water
Kate has never paid any money for furniture and instead gets her things from jumps and the streets.
She says, “I set up my place by picking up discarded furniture on the street before the garbage picks it up. I’ve saved a few thousand dollars on furniture.”
Her bed is made of old yoga mats that she piled up to make a mattress, and she uses magazines as a dining table.
Kate doesn’t want to waste money on electricity and avoids cooking. She uses her dishwasher and oven as storage space in her apartment.

She gets all of her furniture out of the trash
And while New York is one of the fashion capitals of the world, Kate has no interest in keeping up with the latest trends.
“I haven’t bought clothes in eight years,” she explains. “The last time I bought underwear was in 1998.”
The clothes that Kate washed in her shower because the frugal woman hadn’t done any laundry in three years.
Perhaps Kate’s most unconventional way of saving money is by refusing to go without toilet rolls.
“I don’t use toilet paper, I just use soap and water to wash myself off,” she explains, although her recycled paper towels are useful too.
