Amazon said the failure is related to network devices and is related to the application programming interface.
Several Amazon.com Inc services, including Prime Video and applications using Amazon Web Services (AWS), were down for thousands of users in the United States, which also affected the company’s ability to provide regular updates about the outage.
Amazon said Tuesday that the failure is related to network equipment and is related to an application programming interface, or API, which is a set of protocols used to build and integrate application software.
“This issue also affects some of our incident monitoring and response tools, which is delaying our ability to deliver updates,” the company said on its status dashboard at https://status.aws.amazon.com.
“We are pursuing several mitigation pathways in parallel and have seen some signs of recovery, but we do not currently have an ETA for a full recovery.”
Downdetector.com showed more than 28,000 incidents of people reporting issues with Amazon, including the ecommerce website of the same name. DownDetector tracks outages by gathering status reports from a number of sources, including user-submitted bugs on its platform.
The failure can affect a large number of users.
Other services, including Amazon’s Ring security cameras, Chime mobile banking app, and robot vacuum cleaner maker iRobot, have also faced problems, according to their social media pages.
Ring said they are aware of the problem and are working to resolve it, while iRobot said a major AWS outage is affecting its iRobot Home app.

According to the webtool review website ToolTester, users have experienced 27 outages related to Amazon services in the past 12 months.
