Flame red (214)

Guerlain Flame Red (214) Rouge G Luxurious velvet lipstick ($ 34.00 for 0.12 oz.) Is a rich, medium-dark orange with moderate, warm reddish undertones and a semi-matte finish.

The consistency felt smooth, velvety, and light, but was a bit thin, but not enough to be clingy. It had mostly opaque, buildable paint release that lasted well for five and a half hours. The formula was slightly moisturizing but did not last as long as marketed (16 hours).

The new finish is described as “velvet matt” with “exceptional softness, depth of color” and is “long-lasting” with “16-hours comfort and wear”. The color coverage should be “highly pigmented” and “slide easily”.

Most of the shades available were highly pigmented as marketed with an even, smooth coverage that didn’t tend to emphasize lip texture, lines, or imperfections. The texture was smooth, moderately dense, but not thick, so it felt light to the touch (but not clingy). Most shades – at the time of review – are more like medium or deep, but the lightest shades I tested tended to set in my lip lines over time.

The big “downside” is that they don’t wear nearly 16 hours; that would be a big question for any lipstick formula, let alone a traditional spherical formula like this one. They have a longer than average shelf life, with many shades reaching a firm shelf life of six hours with slight stains left behind. The formula was comfortable to wear and slightly moisturizing overall.

They have a floral scent that was noticeable on the lips and I had a slight floral scent when I ate / drank.

Please note that Rouge Gs are now refillable so the price reflects the cost of the lipstick itself, but not the lipstick holder (which is $ 37.50 and comes in a variety of designs). Personally, I keep mine with the refill cap, which is great for home storage but not ideal for someone who carries it in their pocket or who travels frequently.

Cherry red (219)

Guerlain Cherry Red (219) Rouge G Luxurious velvet lipstick ($ 34.00 for 0.12 oz.) Is a deep red with cooler undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had a rich color release paired with a smooth, moderately dense consistency that had a velvety glide that adhered evenly and didn’t tend to slip when worn.

The paint lasted a good six hours, left a faint stain, and was slightly moisturizing. The problem was that the brand claimed 16 hours of wear, so it stayed pretty short compared to that claim.
