Makeup by Mario Kate Ultra Suede Lipstick ($ 24.00 for 0.14 oz.) Is a dusty, medium-dark coral with moderate, warm undertones and a soft, matte finish. The lipstick felt firmer in the tube, which was better applied in shorter, overlapping strokes than in a single pass because it didn’t have enough lubricity.
It was very light and thin – almost weightless to me – on my lips, but it was flexible enough to be comfortable to wear. It had almost opaque pigmentation in one layer that lasted a good four hours and didn’t feel dry to the touch.

Formula overview
$ 24.00 / 0.14 oz. – $ 171.43 per ounce
The formula is said to be a “comfortable matte” finish that provides “full coverage” that “does not dry” and includes “smoothing gels and texturizing powder” that provides a “smooth, matte, soft appearance”. It’s a silicone-heavy formula that’s thin, very light, and has a “soft matte” finish that is mostly matte, but not quite as flat at first as a true matte lipstick.
I find that this type of formula is a more common release from a variety of brands, and they don’t often have a lot of differentiation. Unfortunately, in my experience, most of these formulas have a tendency to highlight lip texture and imperfections – especially to catch around scales, even slight dryness – and to dissolve into lip wrinkles as you wear them down. The lighter shades tend to apply worst and look worst, while medium and deeper shades can be applied smoother and look more flattering.
I noticed that the red and berry tones of the series in the tube seemed stiffer than most of the other hues in the series, and this resulted in the base of the lipstick breaking off the twist mechanism (which broke the following sunglasses: Alicia, Kiana, Kristen, Amanda).
The pigmentation varied from a semi-opaque to an opaque covering power, with lighter shades having a purer covering power compared to deeper shades. The initial consistency was firmer in the tube, if not so severe that I pulled painfully, but I found this tends to be less pigmented and tends to be a better application when building shorter, overlapping strokes overall.
The formula didn’t dry out and was very light so it felt like I had nothing on, but they only wore on between two and five hours with some hues exceeding this range (like a red).

Makeup by Mario Brielle Ultra Suede Lipstick ($ 24.00 for 0.14 oz.) Is a lighter, medium-dark pink coral with moderate, warm undertones and a soft, matte finish. It had a bit more slip compared to most of the shades in the range and also appeared to be a touch thicker, although the application wasn’t much better than other shades.
It had an opaque pigmentation that was applied fairly evenly to my lips, but the color pulled into my deeper lip lines and was more likely to clump around imperfections in texture. It wore well for four hours and settled more noticeably into my lip lines over time, while the formula didn’t feel drying to the touch when worn.
