New Delhi: The latest WhatsApp for PC is based on Electron, a technology that helps integrate web functions into a more traditional app structure. The app’s performance, on the other hand, is far from ideal. Facebook has released a new beta version of the WhatsApp desktop app, which is based on the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) and uses the XAML UI language to fit into native Windows apps.

The new WhatsApp desktop application is currently in beta testing and can be downloaded for Windows 10 and Windows 11 from the Microsoft Store. Click here to get the beta version of the app.

The new UWP-based app has a new writing pad functionality as well as notifications that work even when the program is closed. The new sketch feature allows users to create a sketch and share it on WhatsApp using Windows Ink. Sharp edges are still used in some places, such as the search field and the speech bubbles, but there have been a few minor design changes, such as the new Mica material from Windows 11, which lets the desktop background shine through a bit in the program.

In addition, WhatsApp Desktop’s new beta software comes with a host of new features, including privacy settings, notifications, storage, and more, which are also available in the mobile version.

WABetaInfo first indicated a UWB version of the WhatsApp desktop client over two years ago.

In other developments, WhatsApp is currently rolling out a new beta version for iPhone users that will allow them to restrict their “Last Seen” status, profile photo and the “About” section. According to WABetaInfo, the new data protection feature gives users more control over their information. WhatsApp iOS beta testers can select specific contacts from whom they want to hide their “Last Seen” status.
