ColourPop Band T Velvet Blur Lux lipstick ($ 7.50 for 0.12 oz.) Is a light-medium, rosy brown with subtle, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had medium buildable pigmentation as marketed that applied evenly and smoothly to my lips with a velvety slide. There was a bit of product that got stuck in my deeper lip lines but wasn’t enough to be noticeable. It wore well for three hours and felt slightly moisturizing over time.

It is said to have a “soft focus, blurring effect” with “buildable” color, which “High Impact Color” can provide with a “silky, velvety texture” that “smooths out fine lines and imperfections” without “drying out the lips” . “They have a velvety slip because they are filled with silicone, so they feel smooth when they go over your lips, but have a light, almost powder-like finish that makes me think of a ‘soft mat’. Off At a normal viewing distance, such as looking into a mirror or another person who is looking at you during a personal conversation, I saw the “blurring” effect in contrast to the close-up of the lips in the mirror – soft, slightly subtle color with a matt finish. The lack of coverage in some of them gave them a “softer” look to my eye.

That being said, I haven’t experienced any smoothing, and I haven’t personally found that the more silicone-heavy lipstick formulas go as far as to smooth my lip lines; In fact, I would feel that if the lipstick clings to flakes and settles into lip lines, they are more likely to accentuate imperfections. There were some shades that were applied more unevenly and more prone to set themselves noticeably in my lip lines than others, and some that were applied evenly and also flattered me in terms of texture. As always, when I’m not testing lip products (at night and the like), I do my best to make sure I regularly exfoliate and moisturize my lips to have a “good” canvas for lip color.

Opacity varied from hue to hue, with most hues offering medium buildable coverage, although some of the deeper, more vibrant hues were more semi-opaque to almost opaque in a single layer. The color faded a little more easily from the center of my lips compared to the outer edges, but was fairly even in wear. Only the deepest / redder hues stained my lips (and only slightly) after wearing them. They mostly didn’t seem to dry out, but some felt a little drier to me. The formula has a sweet burnt sugar smell but no noticeable taste.

ColourPop Velvet Blur Lux Tapping Lipstick ($ 7.50 for 0.12 oz.) Is a deep red with cooler undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had a medium color coverage in one layer, which built up with a second layer to form a largely opaque coverage. The consistency was light, thin and velvety with a smoother glide with no less traditional softening.

There was a bit of product that built up in the deeper lip lines that were visible in the close-up photo but not noticeable in person. This shade lasted a good five hours, staining, and feeling slightly moisturizing over time.
