The approval agenda also included the recognition of the resignation of City Councilor Jennifer Smith from Ward 1 on September 27, 2021, as well as the extension of plans and agreements for the lease. At the first point of the regular meeting, the City of Duncan heard the Approval Agenda, which included the City Manager’s approval to enter into an agreement with Honeywell Technologies to terminate the contractual obligations of the parties.
Councilor Lindsay Hayes was absent at the meeting and did not record a voice during the entire meeting.
It was approved with 3-0 votes by Mayor Robert Armstrong, Councilor Patty Wininger and Councilor Nick Fischer.
The council also approved the purchase of Econolite’s 12 traffic controllers, valued at $ 35,716.56, to be replaced along US 81 Highway.
It was voted 3-0 to approve the purchase, with the council then moving on to some decisions that spanned multiple projects that included water pipe improvements, meter improvements and maintenance projects.
Members of the Oklahoma Water Resources Board were in attendance, and the main person providing comments to council members was Alan Brooks.
Brooks told council members that the regular city council meeting had three items on the agenda with three transactions for different notes that included sewer improvements, AMI metering system improvements, and water pipeline improvements.
Mayor Armstrong said they worked hard to make these savings for the city of Duncan and appreciates how this will help the city of Duncan with future projects.
“This will ultimately result in savings for the city, which today has rates near $ 119,000,” said Brooks. “So it does a couple of things, firstly we save some money and secondly we give back a line of credit that we don’t need, that gives us the opportunity to do other things. That is the rough overview of what we are doing. “
City councilor Wininger also emphasized that it is a great thing to take care of basic needs so that the city can supply other infrastructures through savings.
Armstrong voted 3-0 on all city assembly agenda items and wanted to reassure the citizens of Duncan that this is a great thing to do to help the city save money and help with future projects.
“I want to stress the public when you hear these numbers and you likely think these are big numbers,” said Armstrong. “I would like to thank our city manager and council as a whole for working with Alan and his team to ensure that we are borrowing within our budget in this historic interest rate environment. We’re not going to do anything excessive that puts the city in a huge bind. If you hear some of those interest rates, some of which are below two percent and that is fixed at 2.3% for 30 years, now is the time to make some of those improvements, Councilor Wininger said.
The council adjourned the regular meeting and the meeting of the Duncan Public Utilities Authority, also approved its assent agenda, and then approved several agreements and resolutions.
Information from the meeting of the Duncan Enhancement Trust Authority and the Duncan Economic Development Trust Authority will be included in the weekend edition of The Duncan Banner.
