TORY big hitters have told Boris Johnson that by raiding workers’ wages he is risking an election disaster to close the NHS black hole.
They say voters need to see National Insurance (NI) benefits rise very quickly or they will leave the party.

Millionaire donor Lord Ashcroft said: “Boris Johnson is acting like a crazy Formula One racing driver with a Moët & Chandon Magnum showering healthcare with cash that is in danger of being sprayed on the wall.
“Let’s hope that the health chiefs use this gold mine wisely – or not just patients who die unnecessarily, but also the chances of the conservatives to be re-elected.”
Hedge fund chief Crispin Odey said Covid has made funds available to governments, adding, “No one can spend better than Mr Johnson. You have the ideal drunk captain. “
Her comments, backed by a number of backbenchers, come as the prime minister faces a tough Tuesday that forces the House of Commons law to raise taxes in a single day.
His party leadership hopes to limit the extent of a rebellion after two dozen Tories refused to support his NI proposals in a House of Commons vote last Wednesday.
His opponents also see an opportunity to oust Tory MPs who voted for promotion. The Lib Dems have made a hit list of 20 that they consider vulnerable.
But Health Minister Sajid Javid defended the rise, insisting, “I want this waiting list to be tackled.”
MPs also fear city halls will be charging bills to pay for welfare payments as the NHS will suck up most of the new money, double the tax rate for millions.
Boris Johnson will defy angry Tory rebels and push through promise-breaking tax increases to fund welfare
