Patrick Bamford and Raphinha celebrate the Leeds United goal
The Lowdown: Big Money Deals
Whites’ salaries for the year ending July 2020 were £ 78 million – a huge increase over the previous year.
Leeds’ promotion to the Premier League has seen the payroll rise – it was just £ 31m when they were in the second division.
With the likes of Diego Llorente and Rodrigo last year, big summer signings and new contracts have resulted in the largest payroll ever seen on Elland Road.
The latest: The six greatest ambitions
Football Insider said the current season pay bill will climb to over £ 100 million after big money contracts are handed out to Bamford and the summer receipts.
The report says the reasons for the high number are due to the tremendous amount of expensive talent that went into promoting Leeds – Raphinha, Llorente and Rodrigo – while Dan James and Junior Firpo had lucrative contracts to the club this season changed in Yorkshire.
Bamford’s contract news brought the striker a “big” raise, a deal that sees the England international stay at the club for another five years.
With revenues increasing since her promotion, Andrea Radrizzani intends to compete with the top six teams and compete in European competitions.
The verdict: letter of intent
Radrizzani obviously isn’t playing around. With Rodrigo at £ 100,000 a week and Raphinha at £ 58,000 a week, United’s ambition is evident and clear.
The impressive ninth place last season was very impressive and made people sit up and take notice. With the signings of James and Firpo, Leeds now looks like a serious team and has all the tools to compete for the last European spots this season with players like Leicester City, Everton and Arsenal.
Bamford’s first appearance for England is a great way of realizing how far this club has come and they seem just beginning.
In other news, this international’s signing has been questioned by a Sky Sports expert. Find out more here.
