DIGITAL SERVICES

The China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), which opens next week in Beijing, will highlight digital technologies and services, organizers said on Friday.

Under the motto “Digital future and service-oriented development”, the trade fair is presenting a special area for digital services for the first time.

Up to 33 well-known companies and institutions take part in the special section, 15 conferences and forums discuss the digital economy and digital trade.

SELF-PROPELLED VEHICLE

China’s tropical Hainan Province has issued a permit to test a self-driving vehicle on certain public roads.

Hainan’s first road test license plate was awarded to the E-HS3, an all-electric model by Hongqi, a legendary sedan brand owned by China’s leading automaker, FAW Group, according to the province’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The vehicle is equipped with four laser radars, a smart camera, five millimeter wave (MMW) radars and several high-precision sensors that can detect everything around the vehicle, including pedestrians over 200 meters away.

SHORT VIDEO USERS

China had 888 million online short video users in June, accounting for nearly 88 percent of total internet users, a report released on Friday showed.

“Watching short videos and live streaming has become national entertainment in China,” said the 48th China Statistical Report on Internet Development. It added that the number of Chinese live streaming users reached 638 million, which is over 63 percent of total internet users.

The report found that the total number of users of e-commerce live broadcasts totaled 384 million, an increase of about 75.2 million from the previous year.
