Chanel Rose Ambigu (84) Rouge Allure Lacquer (2020) ($ 40.00 for 0.18 oz.) Is a medium dark pink with strong, warm undertones and a soft sheen. The texture felt smooth, light, and thin, with lots of creamy panties – almost balsamic – at first that evolved into a more transfer-resistant, slightly sticky texture that was no longer pliable or prone to slipping. It had an opaque pigmentation that was applied evenly and lasted a good six and a half hours with a moisturizing feel, despite having a wear time of 12 hours.

The formula is said to have “ultra-intense color with a long-lasting satin sheen in one go” that lasts for up to “12 hours” and is pleasant for up to “8 hours”. Most of the shades I tested had medium to semi-opaque coverage in one layer that could be built up by applying a second layer.
The consistency initially felt softer and like a liquid lip balm and turned to something thicker, denser, and stickier within 30 seconds, which helped hold the product in place better. I also felt that the color looked more even over time and was less likely to get stuck in my lip lines, but it could take an hour or more to show up.
It felt pretty light and had more of the “satin sheen” the brand claimed after an hour or two of wear, and it felt significantly less sticky. There are other formulas on the market that have a similar start and finish feel (from a little thinner to a little thicker and stickier), but the stickiness that wears off faster with Chanel’s formula reduced the lifespan significantly.
The color lasted between five and seven hours, with deeper, more pigmented, and lighter shades lasting longer than lighter ones. They didn’t survive a meal as well, and for something marketed as up to 12 hours I would expect better survivability. However, they were very comfortable and moisturizing, and left my lips in better condition after wearing different shades for a few days. They had a floral scent, but for me no noticeable taste.
And no, these are nothing like the previously published Rouge Allure Laque formula. The older formula was more like a literal liquid lipstick, so it was creamier, thicker and the formula didn’t change or settle after a minute or so; At most, after a few hours of wear, it wore off to a silky to semi-matte finish (like any glossier lipstick could). Although they have the same name, they are really different types of formulas.

Chanel Corail Alternatif (85) Rouge Allure Lack (2020) ($ 40.00 for 0.18 oz.) Is a bright coral red with warm undertones and a soft sheen. It had a rich drop of color in a single stroke that was applied evenly to my lips and didn’t accentuate my lip lines or get caught in the texture. The consistency was light, more balsamic, and thinner when first applied, but dried to a more transfer-resistant finish with a slight tack but no slippage. It wore well for seven hours and was hydrated over time (although the brand claimed 12 !! hours).
