In a new post on Weibo, Xiaomi has announced that it will discontinue the anti-loss mode service for Mi Mix 4 devices. The update comes after the technology was not approved by the Chinese regulator.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Mi Mix 4 was launched with an integrated virtual SIM card.
- The SIM card should help find the device even if it wasn’t connected to the network.
- Xiaomi has now announced that the service will be discontinued.
The recently launched Mi Mix 4 will not carry any of the features that Xiaomi promised at the time of its debut. The smartphone should be equipped with an anti-loss mode to protect it from loss or theft. Xiaomi has now announced that this will not be the case.
The update was shared by the Chinese tech major through a recent post on Weibo. As discovered by Gizmo China, the post states that the cardless network service for anti-loss mode has been canceled on the Mi Mix 4. The company cites official directives as the reason for discontinuing the technology.
The Mi Mix 4’s anti-loss mode was based on a virtual SIM card. The built-in SIM card enabled users to locate their device even if it did not have a SIM card. Xiaomi states in its update that the assistive technology for this feature has not yet been released for use in mobile phone products.
It therefore had to be removed from the Mi Mix 4 due to such non-compliance with Chinese regulations. In the post, the company apologized to its users for discontinuing the anti-loss mode.
The anti-loss function was introduced with the Mi Mix 4. However, this is not the only new technology that the smartphone is equipped with. A few others include Qualcomm’s brand new flagship processor – Snapdragon 888+, an under-display selfie camera, and a ceramic unibody design.
Xiaomi also claims that the smartphone has a “unique” heat dissipation structure with a large surface area inside the device using a graphene heat spreader. The Mi Mix 4 is also the first Xiaomi smartphone to feature new UWB technology compatible with smart home products to enable “point to connect” functions.
Further highlights of the device are up to 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512 GB UFS 3.1 support. It has a 6.67-inch FHD + AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, HDR10 + support and a 20-megapixel sensor under the screen. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.
For photography, the Mi Mix 4 has a triple rear camera setup that includes a 108-megapixel main sensor, a freeform ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 50X periscope sensor. The device is supported by a 4500 mAh battery.
