Chanel Beige Roissant (227) Rouge Allure Velvet ($ 38.00 for 0.12 oz.) Is a darker peach with warm, orange undertones and a satin finish. It had an almost opaque color payoff that stuck evenly to my lips and was applied comfortably without pulling or pulling during application.

The texture was light, thin, and slightly velvety – not as creamy or wet as it went on – but there was a touch of product that settled into my deeper lip lines that was imperceptible from normal viewing distance. It carried well for four hours and felt slightly moisturizing over time.

The Rouge Allure Velvet formula is said to be a “non-drying matte lipstick” with an “intensely rich, long-lasting color” and a “velvet matte finish”. Over time, I’ve felt that the formula has improved and actually doesn’t dry (the original launch didn’t wear out well on me) to lightly dry (more in colors that lasted six to eight hours). The pigmentation varies from shade to shade, but is usually semi-opaque to opaque with a semi-matte to satin finish. The texture had a velvety glide that doesn’t feel particularly creamy or wet, but the lipstick is comfortable to wear over the four to six hours it typically lasts. Like most Chanel lip products, they have a rosy smell but no discernible taste.

Chanel Beige Ardent (237) Rouge Allure Velvet ($ 38.00 for 0.12 oz.) Is a muted, medium-sized plum with moderate, warm undertones and a satin finish with a barely-there pearl. It was more “matte” than shimmery, but it seemed to have fine pearls all over it. The texture felt light, thin but not clingy, and smooth with a more velvety consistency as it slid over my lips.

It had a semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation that drained evenly and didn’t emphasize my lip lines or lip texture. It lasted a good four and a half hours and felt slightly moisturizing when worn.
