Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, stood with all his might behind the “Fortnite” manufacturer Epic Games, which has questioned the fees of Apple Inc. for its App Store.
“Apple’s app store fees are a de facto global tax on the internet. Epic is right,” he said in a tweet.
Apple is already fighting a lawsuit filed by Epic Games last year alleging that the iPhone manufacturer abused its dominance in the market for mobile apps. Epic broke Apple’s rules when it introduced its own in-app payment system in Fortnite to bypass Apple’s commissions.
Apple, which has defended its App Store practices in both court and lawmakers hearings, did not immediately speak out.
Apparently, Musk has rejected a report that revealed that he once had a chat with Apple CEO Tim Cook about a possible takeover of the electric car maker and the takeover as CEO of the iPhone maker.
“There came a point where I asked to meet Cook to discuss Apple’s purchase of Tesla. No conditions for takeover were proposed. He refused to meet, “Musk said in another tweet.
On Tesla’s call with Wall Street analysts earlier this week, Musk shot Apple at Apple, criticizing the company’s “walled garden” or its tightly controlled technology ecosystem and its use of cobalt, a key mineral in the manufacture of lithium-ion batteries.
